Stack Overflow has sold to Prosus for 1.8 billion USD. Prosus is one among the world’s leading technology investors with stakes in companies like Tencent, Brainly, BYJU’s, Codecademy, Udemy, and more.

Stack Overflow is one among the foremost heavily engaged sites within the world, Since 2008. Almost every programmer, system admin, or data scientist depends on this site. i prefer one among their slogans:

Every developer features a tab hospitable Stack Overflow

Now, after this huge acquisition, many developers are wondering if it’ll be the same? Can we still use it for free of charge , or will it change within the near future?

Let’s determine .

What Are They Saying?

Although Prosus has bought the entire company, the management team will remain an equivalent . The co-founder of Stack Overflow, Joel Spolsky, said that it might still operate independently, with the precise same team, an equivalent plan, and therefore the same business practices.

The CEO of Stack Overflow, Mr. Chandrasekar also said, “How you employ our site and our products won’t change within the coming weeks or months, even as our company’s goals and strategic priorities will remain an equivalent .”

So, we will understand that from their perspective, for the nonce , it’ll be an equivalent .

Prosus’s Plan for StackOverflow:

Why they acquired it?

Prosus is one among the leading investors within the world within the Edtech sector. they need made such a lot impact by investing all round the world. They improve the lives of around one-fifth of the entire world population!
Its mission is to complement and empower communities. they need already invested in BYJU, Codecademy, Skillsoft, and Udemy.

On the opposite side, StackOverflow is that the largest Question-answer site for developers. they need quite 100 million+ monthly visitors, and 5000+ teams instance active a day . there’s a replacement question asked on Stack Overflow every 14 seconds.

So, Prosus is that the perfect company to accumulate stack overflow. they need to make workplace learning opportunities everywhere the planet .
Future possible impacts or changes

Acceleration: With the backing of a worldwide technology powerhouse, StackOverflow can accelerate global impact tremendously. they’re going to make the general public platform more resourceful for each technologist and developer.

StackOverflow for teams: Many don’t know Stackoverflow features a SaaS product called “StackOverflow for teams” for a personal collaboration and knowledge-sharing platform for companies including Microsoft, Siemens, Bloomberg, Logitech, Instacart, and more.

With this new acquisition and institutional knowledge, they’re going to reach thousands more global enterprises.

Workplace learning giant: Prosus will reach 90% of the Fortune 100 across its corporate learning companies, including Stack Overflow, Skillsoft, Udemy, and Codecademy.

We might see cross-platform collaboration between these platforms. If this happens, developers are going to be benefitted even more.

More paid products/services: Stack Overflow’s biggest asset is its huge developer community. Software development is already a multi-billion dollar business. So we’d see some useful SaaS for developers and teams.

StackOverflow already has some additional products/services like Talent, Advertising, or jobs platform, so we’d see growth in these sectors too.

Is $1.8B Low for StackOverflow?

I personally think so. i think StackOverflow features a huge potential. They have already got built a robust community. we’ve seen Slack, which was founded in 2009, has been sold to Salesforce for $27.7B.

I am just mentioning Slack because the age of those two companies is nearly an equivalent , but the valuation gap is huge! one among the explanations is that the revenue. Slack’s revenue is way above that of Stackoverflow.

Another big reason is that Slack isn’t limited to developers or tech companies, so their market size is greater . Nevertheless, both have created an enormous value within the industry from a special perspective.

But personally, i think the impact made by Stackoverflow is invaluable for developers! Hopefully, after this acquisition, Stackoverflow can increase its revenue within the near future from its SaaS and other services.

Last Words

Prosus may be a long-term investor and that i believe they’re going to really build a far better community for developers. For the nonce , StackOverflow will remain an equivalent — a community-based, question-answer platform.
We, all developers, love StackOverflow and need for this site to enhance day-by-day. We just want to seek out our answers free on this site!
